unfortunately, my family doesn't even call to check on how i'm doin let alone think about gettin a laptop for me, and after not working most of the last 8-10 years, i'm lucky i even have a pc

maybe i'll do that with my tax return, that is a good idea. I'd love to get one of those new ibm laptops with rapid restore. but i'm on cable, and don't think i can get one with an ethernet adapter. i'll have to check it out if uncle sam hooks me up.

i'm more concerned with getting on disability and bein able to survive, then gettin a laptop, but it would be nice to surf propped up on pillows with a heating pad on my back as i surf.

think for now, i'll break out my massage seat cover for my chair...it's got heat and massage. might help till ya'll hook me up with that full body massage *wink*

Damn PJ....I'm sorry to hear that about your family - unfortunately lonliness and/or "aloneness" can be one of the down-sides of being in pain and to whatever degree disabled. [img]frown.gif[/img] Unfortunately lonliness and/or "aloneness" can be the down-side of a lot of things....LOL! But one upside of the PC is we meet friends and can visit and have fun anyway! Hmph!! I just got cable, and mine has both a USB port and an Ethernet connection. I'm on an IBM laptop, but it's not one of the new ones. Had to get a card to put in the laptop that has the Ethernet (sp?) adapter, 'cause the USB port went to hell in a bucket on me the 3rd day. That sucked! Anyway, just thought I'd mention that - hopefully you can get a modem with both/either connector if ya do get one. Wouldn't be a bad investment if ya can swing it. Warning: you'll get spoiled rotten! Hang on to your desktop though - some of the laptops can get pretty persnickity sometimes - yet others just plug away world without end...LOL! I had "Go Back" installed on this one and I'm gonna put it back. It's like that quick restore only not "built-in" and it's WONDERFUL! I have so many graphics on here that I just CAN'T lose, and I had to make room for the installation of the cable modem, so I got rid of everything I could 'til that was done and I could see what I could put back on.

I do understand your concern about getting on Disability, hon, and I know it seems to take forever. But keep at it, and once you get approved they'll likely owe you a chitload of backpay to the time your disability "began". Now that's the federal SS Disability. Just don't get discouraged, though it's hard not to - 'cause with all you've had happen to you, you're GONNA get it! I think the usual is to apply for it - then appeal.....then appeal again and they'll send ya before a SS Judge (get a lawyer that specializes in that and he'll do it for a % of your backpay). You're FINALLY in touch with a human being who will listen to your case - that definitely makes a difference.

I worked for a Psychiatrist back when, and there was a guy who was in a cast from his neck down that STILL had to go through allllll that to get approved [img]frown.gif[/img] That's ridiculous! But sadly true. So keep on keepin' on....you'll get there.

And we're here for ya when things start to get ya down - don't forget that! Even though that won't fix it - talkin' it out can sure help. And this is a great group of folks that really care.

yeah i'm very familiar with social security works. I sent them 800 pages of medical recorde after i got shot, and they told me there was nothing wrong with me, denied my ppeals all the way up to the administrative law judge who told me even though i got shot in the head with a 45, that there was nothing wrong with me.

I know the best lawyer in my area for SSI etc though now. his dad is the district judge for disability cases...lol

so it should work out this time. thanks for sharin the info though...seems we've both been there and done that...lol
